Biofuels/Chemicals
Ameresco and Republic Services have begun operations at their joint venture's landfill gas (LFG) to renewable natural gas (RNG) plant at the Roxana Landfill in Edwardsville, Illinois. The facility, one of the largest of its kind in North America, processes 6,000 standard cubic feet of landfill gas per minute into pipeline-quality RNG.

Electric Vehicles
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has granted a historic $9.63 billion loan to BlueOval SK LLC (BOSK) to build three EV battery plants in Tennessee and Kentucky. These plants will supply batteries for Ford's electric vehicles. The facilities will produce 120 GWh of batteries annually.

Liquified Natural Gas (LNG)
India plans to supply LNG to Sri Lanka as part of a broader effort to enhance energy cooperation between the two countries. This includes discussions on a high-capacity power grid connection and a multi-product pipeline involving the UAE. Additionally, both nations are exploring joint offshore wind power development in the Palk Straits.
Venture Global announced that its Plaquemines LNG facility in Louisiana has achieved first production. The 20 MTPA project reached production just 30 months after its Final Investment Decision (FID), making it one of the fastest greenfield LNG projects to do so.

Nuclear Energy
Chevron CEO Mike Wirth expressed support for small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) as a way to decarbonize remote operations and highlighted Chevron's prior investments in nuclear and fusion technologies. Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil CEO Darren Woods urged caution, noting that SMRs may not be commercially viable until the next decade.

Recycling
The European Union has announced new regulations requiring all packaging to be 100% recyclable by 2030, as part of efforts to tackle growing packaging waste. The rules include mandates for 65% recycled content in single-use plastic bottles by 2040, a ban on certain single-use plastics, and strict targets for re-use and recycling. By 2030, businesses must meet re-use targets for transport and grouped packaging, and allow customers to bring their own containers in take-away settings.
